The FGR-115RE provided a transmission range of up to 60 miles (please note that line-of-sight obstructions, RF interference, and antenna type affected transmission distance). The FGR-115RE had a 10baseT Ethernet connector making it an ideal base station radio/modem when data needed to be transmitted over a local area network or the Internet. The FGR-115RE could also serve as a stand-alone repeater radio/modem. Campbell Scientific did not recommend using the FGR-115RE at the field site because it did not have an RS-232 connector. Either an NL100 or NL115 was required to connect it to a data logger.

The FGR-115RE radio spread the normally narrowband information signal over a relatively wide band of frequencies. This process made communications more immune to noise and interference from RF sources such as pagers, cellular phones, and multi-path. User-selectable frequency hopping patterns reduced the radio's susceptibility to RF interference from other spread spectrum devices.
The FGR-115RE was retired on 12 June 2007.

The FGR-115RE can be used in networks containing RF450 radios. Campbell Scientific does not recommend using it with our RF401-series or RF430-series radios.
The FGR-115RE does not have an RS-232 connector, and therefore requires either an NL100 or NL115 to connect it to a data logger. For this reason, Campbell Scientific recommends using it's cousin, the FGR-115RC, at the field site instead of the FGR-115RE.
